Origin of the Nursery
It’s getting a bit detailed…The company originated from a hobby of Jan and Stien Lucassen. Jan Lucassen was a practical teacher for horticulture at AOC Oost. However, the hobby nursery kept growing. In 1985, the two oldest children, Marcel and Jacqueline, together with her husband Willy Wolsing, decided to join the business, forming a general partnership (VOF). A few years later, the youngest son, Rob Lucassen, also joined the company.
At that time, the nursery consisted of two locations in Kranenburg, where the transition from open-field cultivation to container cultivation – i.e., plants grown in pots – gradually took place. Both locations, however, proved unsuitable for the planned greenhouse expansions. Together with the municipality, a suitable location for these construction plans was sought.
New Construction in 1999 & Staff
Move to Oude Zutphenseweg 6AThis new location was eventually found on the edge of the village center of Vorden, adjacent to the industrial area. Within one year, three company residences, a company building with greenhouse, a water reservoir, and container fields were built. In the autumn of 1999, the company fully relocated to its current location in Vorden at Oude Zutphenseweg.
Without the dedication and commitment of our staff, the nursery could not have achieved this impressive growth. We are therefore proud that our permanent team has been a reliable cornerstone for many years. Hanneke has been with the company for over 27 years and Amanda for over 20 years.
In spring and autumn, additional seasonal workers are often employed. During these periods, we are particularly busy, and extra hands are very welcome. During the summer and autumn school holidays, students often work at the nursery, mainly performing light and simple tasks such as cutting, weeding, and cleaning plants.
Owners
Lucassen Boomkwekerij is currently managed by three partners, all members of the same family. Rob Lucassen represents the second generation and has been active within the company since the early 1980s. Jorik Wolsing joined the partnership on 1 January 2018, followed by his nephew Jart Lucassen on 1 January 2026.
Responsibilities within the company are clearly divided. Rob is primarily responsible for crop production, technical maintenance, and the development of new machinery. Jorik oversees the general management of the business, including planning, personnel, and all purchasing and sales activities. Jart focuses on the technical aspects of cultivation and ensures that our plants are always maintained in optimum condition.
Former partners Willy, Jacqueline, and Marcel remain closely involved with the company. Working behind the scenes, they continue to support the team in various areas while sharing their many years of knowledge and experience.
